The final project consists of designing a Wiki module that consists of specific components of a content module for online delivery You will draw from theory and principles of online learning presented in Modules 1-3 and will apply the information to assist with the design.
To prepare for the assignment, please review the slide shows and related materials (Module 2). You may also want to browse the Module 1 materials and review all previously required readings. The final project is worth 200 points.
Remember to view examples of each component by selecting the corresponding link listed on the left-hand menu.
Steps in completing the final project:
Begin by selecting a topic and set of objectives and skills (skills if applicable). Be sure that the topic is broad enough for design purposes, but narrow enough to fulfill the project requirements. Content must be appropriate for the selected grade, age, or audience.
Determine what is most important to include in the Wiki in terms of content, skills, resources, and discussion. Based on this information, design a set of Learning Objectives. The objectives will provide the framework for the unit / content module.
Identify relevant readings. The assigned readings may include articles, textbook chapters, etc.
You will need to decide how you will present the content information. One suggestion is to design a slide show that covers important points and/or key concepts. Other suggestions include including a WebQuest, lecture notes, interactive web sites, and related resources.
Studenthandouts and related web sites and resources must also be included.
Next, design at least two learning activities. Be sure that the learning activities align with: a) Learning Objectives and b) content material. Remember that research shows that a constructivist approach works effectively in the online environment; therefore, the learning activities must be applicable, relevant, and authentic. Examples: Case studies, project, critical analysis paper, action research.
In order to assess learning, you will need to design a rubric for evaluating student products.
Communication and interaction is a key component of online learning. Using the content covered in your Wiki module, design a Discussion Forum. The Forum must include: a) assigned readings, b) at least four focus questions, and c) evaluation instrument. The focus questions must be open ended and must be designed in a manner that promotes interaction. Last, add the Forum guidelines. Example: Number of postings, responses, and outside sources.
References – Include a Reference page with at least four outside sources you used in designing the unit / content module. The sources may include textbooks, articles, outside readings, etc.
Post your wiki content module address to the forum titled, Sharing Your Wiki Content Module for evaluation. If you do not post to the forum, your final project will not be evaluated.
NOTES:
Each Wikipage MUST be "user friendly" and aesthetically pleasing in addition to being appropriate for the intended audience.
The final project will be evaluated based on the following rubric. Please follow the checklist below in preparing and uploading your materials.
You MUST post your wiki address to the forum titled, Sharing Your Wiki Content Module. Please see the course site for forum.
